Aims

This graduate course aims to provide students of materials science majors an introduction to mechanics of solids, especially, outlining the existing relationships between elastic and viscoelastic stresses and strains in both isotropic and anisotropic solids under complex loading states. In the second part, introduction to fracture phenomena in non-metallic materials is provided along with introduction to linear elastic fracture mechanics with emphasis on effects of structural variables on failure of polymers, polymer blends, composites and ceramics.
