The course is intended to teach English for Specific Purposes. However, general English is also included.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace, as well as grammar structures for everyday communication at intermediate level.
Prerequisites
Course is intended for students who are familiar with the language at pre-intermediate level. They are expected to have the knowledge and skills corresponding to the courses A3 and A4.

Language instruction as an extension of basic professional curriculum.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
To pass this course it is necessary, apart from active participation in the class and individual home preparation, to fulfil and present tasks given and to pass the credit test, which is divided into three parts written on pre-set dates throughout the semester. Altogether it is required to collect at least 30 points out of 50 in these tests. In case this benchmark of 60% is not achieved, there is a possibility for the student to resit the test, however containing all three parts. Finally, students’ work in the e-learning support of the course is also reflected in the overall course assessment.

Aims
The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language with focus on practical, everyday communication in a wide range of engineering branches.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss two seminars.
