Course detail
Laboratory Classes in Physics I
FCH-BCT_FYZ1_PAcad. year: 2017/2018
This practical course introduces into basic and fundamental physical methods and experiments which are carried out and evaluated by the students. The structure of this course follows the path taken between experimental experience and quantitative formulations of fundamental laws which are presented during the lectures of Fyzika I. Special emphasis is placed on the critical evaluation of experimental results.
Supervisor
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students enhance their physical knowledge and they learn to plan, construct, execute, and evaluate experiments. Basic measurement and analysis procedures are learned, and first-hand experience of physical laws and phenomena is gained, from selected laboratory exercises. Students should be able to deepen their understanding of physics and physical processes. Students are trained to work independently, maintain an exact laboratory record, and to critically evaluate their measurements. They enlarge they basic computer skills such as computer based experiments, computer-based data evaluation and word processing and to be able to present clear and professional reports.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in physical principles and mathematical methods.
Co-requisites
Not applicable.
Recommended optional programme components
Not applicable.
Recommended or required reading
Brož J. a kol.: Základy fyzikálních měření Ia II, SPTN, 1978 (CS)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course uses teaching methods in form of Laboratory exercise - 3 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The (graded) course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended all seminars and worked out written reports of the experiments of required content and form.

Aims
The course aims at developing experimental skills and theoretical knowledge, which are necessary for study of technology disciplines. The students are stimulated to analyze thoroughly their experimental results and to discuss them with a critical eye, paying attention to proper error analysis.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance is required and preparedness for independent working on the experiment is checked by the teacher.
