History of Architecture Middle East In the context of European civilization

The course aims to familiarize students with the history of urbanism, architecture and construction in the area of the Middle East and adjacent regions of the Mediterranean - the space through which to us in Europe flowed cultural and civilizational influences oldest civilizations. Especially concerning the addition of knowledge beyond basic data, lectured in courses History of Architecture, Fundamentals of Architectural Design and Conservation and restoration of monuments, lectured at the undergraduate level.
In this course will introduce basic principles of architectural and construction work from the perspective of the three largest monotheistic religions that originated in this sector and that significantly influenced and still influence the development of engineering.
In the second thematic session will commemorate moments of birth of the scientific approach to archeology and the study of construction of architectural monuments, from the beginnings of Egyptology - Napoleon's expedition to Egypt, through the work of prominent personalities in the field of mapping the cultural heritage of the Middle East in the 19th and 20th centuries to the current situation, with emphasis on the involvement of Czech personalities.
During the semester, students will be acquainted with the history and present a number of significant architectural objects and locations, with protection of the world cultural heritage (Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Petra, Ephesus, Pergamon, Palmyra, Damascus, Cairo, Cordoba, Granada, Seville, Malaga, Apamea, Aleppo, Gerasa, Gadara, Fez, Rabat, Marrakech, Casablanca, Aid ben Hadou, Cesarea, Kerak, Crake de chevalier, Amra and many others.).
At the same level, students learn about the life and work of the most important figures standing at the birth of the modern approach to mapping and protection of architectural and building monuments and cultural heritage (Belzoni, Burckhardt, Lepsius, Carter, Maspero, Mariette, Champollion, Roberts, Libay, Prof. Musil, Prof. Verner, Prof. Vachala and many others.

The aim is to increase students' awareness of root and source of our European civilization, to supplement the knowledge about the development of urbanism, architecture and construction in areas that are inextricably linked to our cultural space and which have been the birthplace and development of three major monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
