Structural Detail (S-PST)

Structural detail is one of basic connections between construction and architecture. The structure is a construction here, whose particular parts and elements are put together into the unit, which respects both static and architectonic aspects in general design and also in details. This is a crucial issue for total building interaction. Detail and structure are connected with many functional attachments. As the functional attachments we can mention: effects of internal and external surrounding influences, functionality and aesthetic, static and dynamics of a structure, optimal energy consumption, mutual relationships between details and the unit, technology and feasibility, reliability, economy.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student should be able to solve structural details taken over particular project documentation and compiles a seminary work on a given subject.

Prerequisites

Theory of civil engineering´s constructions, drawing of buildings Theory of building construction, drawing of building constructions according to valid standards. Technical and typological principles of building design and particular construction units.
Building Act + executive regulations CSN, DIN, ISO, EN.

Course curriculum

1.Introduction to the course, system, subsystem, element - mutual relations between structural details, interaction, traditional and system approach to building analyses.
2. Essential criteria for structural detail design in terms of quality and value, function, physical-technical, energy consumption, work difficulty, fire resistance, aesthetics, etc.
3. Physical aspects of structural detail design – thermal, acoustic, lighting, wind, water, energy, durability.
4. Identification of enormously loaded structural details. Structural details jointing external walls, foundations and floors on the ground, in buildings without a basement.
5. Identification of enormously loaded structural details. Structural details jointing external walls, foundations and floors in basement buildings and buildings without a basement.
6. Identification of enormously loaded structural details. Structural details of overhanging constructions (balconies, loggia, bays) and cornices.
7. Identification of enormously loaded structural details. Structural details of flat roofs and their connection with external walls.
8. Identification of enormously loaded structural details. Structural details of pitched roofs and their connection with external walls.
9. Identification of enormously loaded structural details. Structural details of windows, doors, gates and their connection with external walls.
10. Structural details of stairs and railings, ceilings and floors, tinsmith’s work and products.

Aims

Structural – architectonic detail takes a crucial share in a total level of building. The student solves, under the direction of the tutor, structural details taken over particular project documentation and compiles a seminary work on a given subject. An integral part of the work is a public defence of elected technical solutions.
