Structure and Properties of Inorganic Materials II

Principles and axioms of rational thermodynamics, thermodynamic data, thermodynamic databases. Equilibrium in system of one compound in multiphase system, chemical and phase equilibriums in heterogeneous system, reaction of gaseous phase with one component condense phases equilibrium of liquid solution with gas, chemical and phase equilibriums among condensed phases. Binary, ternary, quaternary systems. Construction of phases diagrams. Phase interface, pure compounds, mixtures.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student gains knowledge abou driving force of chemical reaction and phase transformation, will be able work with thermodynamic databases and phase diagrams

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week, seminars - 2 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credits is granted on the basis of ability to work with thermodynamic databases, phase diagrams.
Examination is focused on testing of ability to applicate of knowledge in stability of materials forecasting.

Course curriculum

Basic definitions and axioms of racional thermodynamics, thermodynamic data and databases, one compound equilibria in more phases, chemical and phase equilibria in heterogeneous systems, equilibria in reactions of gaseous phase with condensed one component phases, equilibria of liquid solution with gaseou phase, binary systems, ternary systems, quarternary systems, experiences with construction of phase diagrams, crystalization trace, van Hoff diagrams, phase interface
