Representation of the Body and Corporeality as an Antropological and Aesthetic Problem - summer

Anthropological and philosophical aspects of the human physicality and identity. Anthropomorphic symbolism in visual culture. Anatomical (morphological), cultural-anthropological and aesthetical conventions in the depiction of human body. Human body as a medium and text. Artificial (artistic as well bionic) reconstruction of human body. Human body and new technologies.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire basic knowledge of antropological and aesthetic theories in their relationhip. They will learn about the antropological and aesthetic determinants of artistic representation of the human body.

Prerequisites

Basic orientation in philosophical and antropological problematics.

70% attendace, active preparation for the seminar (homework reading), active participation in seminars (papers, discussion), a 1500-word essay.

7. improving of the human body
8. aesthetization and deformation of the human body
9. a living and a dead body
10. the representation of the human body and social convenstions (ethical, religious, political, aesthetical)
11. human body as the communicative medium (speech, text)

Aims

The course introduces the issues of bio-socio-cultural antropology to enhance critical awareness of studets of art faculty at a technological university. Students will be instructed about aesthetic conventions and representative criteria of the human body in historically changeable forms and cultures.
