Practical Exercises in Information Networks
FEKT-BPISAcad. year: 2015/2016
The subject is oriented to practical applications of passive and active network components. It gives an overview of the connector and cable types used in computer networks, and an introduction to the problematic of connecting. The second part of the subject is oriented to the basic types of active network components including installation and configuration of common network interfaces, hubs, switches, routers, and firewalls. The last part is focused on network services, especially on the installation and configuration of FTP and Web servers, unsecured and secure remote access and capture, and analysis of network traffic.
Learning outcomes of the course unit
After completing the course, students acquire a basic overview of passive and active network elements and their advantages and disadvantages. They also acquire practical experience including connecting network cables, installation and configuration of network interfaces, components and basic network services.
The knowledge and skills on the secondary school level are required.
