Urban development policy

In the subject, the principles of guiding strategic urban development are analysed. Urban development concept is interpreted as a creative project of the city's comprehensive and harmonic development. It is significant for: ideal model of the city's development as a settlement unit, strategic decision-making of the city management, discussions with citizens,gaining businessmen confidence, participative co-operation of region and state , co-ordination of local and reginal activities, co-ordination of functional and operational systems, formulating urban development programs as means of political city managenment, basis for land-use planning documentation. As such, the urban development concept is the oposite of the administrative land plannig tools.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of urban design and urban planning, at the extent corresponding to 1 to 3 semesters of university study. General overview of social and natural sciences.

Working out three seminar works and passing an oral exam.

Aims

The aim of the subject's study is to gain the theoretical and methodical knowledge needed for formulating urban development concepts.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Teaching will be conducted in form of lectures and gaol-oriented seminars, with active participation of the students. At the study's beginning, each student will get a time schedule with a detailed outline of lectures, and offer of concrete subject matters of seminar works. The seminar work's content will be individually specified with each student according to his or her study oreintation. In case of absence, the subject matter shall be learned according to schedule from professional literature. Seminars are obligatory, and include the presentation and defence of the student's seminar work.
