Design of Racing Pneumobile

FSI-0ZPAcad. year: 2013/2014

The course focuses on the development and modification of racing pneumobile. Pneumobile is lightweight three-wheeled vehicle powered by compressed air supplied in 10 liter bottle. Pneumobile races take place every year in Eger,Hungary. Each university may send up to two racing teams of four students. Participating teams compete in three races Long distance race, Arcade race and Acceleration race. During the semester it is necessary to plan and make adjustments and modifications to the vehicle, that will lead to improvement of driving and performance parameters. It is planned active participation of the best students (at least one team) during May 2014.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

During the semester, students are introduced with pneumatic actuators and their control. They will gain experience in the design of chain and gears, CAD modeling, geometry of vehicle chassis. Students will gain experience of working in a team and especially they will get practical verification of the implementation of their proposals.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of machine design, good knowledge of CAD (Inventor). The advantage is knowledge of machine parts and mechanisms, MKP, pneumatic systems, electronics, PLC control.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit will be given for the technical report, the implementation of modifications of the vehicle aa sending the application to the race. Individual evaluation of students will be according to completion of assigned partial tasks.

Aims

The primary objective of the course is the application of theoretical knowledge on practical task during the modification of prototype racing car based on a pneumatic drive. Working in teams will teach students to enforce and defend their solutions in a group of co-workers. Students will also gain experience in planning and time demands during design and implementation phases of the project.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance is checked, it is presumed interest in the project and active participation. Teaching can not be replaced in an alternative date. After two unexcused absences the student will be excluded from further education.
