Basic knowledge of common ecology: definitions, nomenclature, recommended information sources.
The selected chapters from the following topics:
Sustainable development, ecological footprint,
Global warming,
Chemicals in environment,
Impact of climate change on environment of the CR,
Transport and urban environment,
Vegetation in urban environment,
Passive buildings,
Ecological architecture, low impact development,
Urban sprawl impact on city environment,
Brownfields restoration,
Public spaces for people,
Water in urban environment, water front in cities, water supply and sewage water treatment.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Overview of applied ecology problems. Detailed knowledge of ecological architecture, passive buildings, brownfields, public spaces topics. Water in the city. Model projects of river restoration in urban environment. Sewage water treatment.

Basic knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics

Co-requisites

low impact development, brownfields restoration, alternative energy sources, water supply and sewage water treatment

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
Oral lectures with Power Point presentations. Lecture of the invited specialist with the following discussion. Video document on selected topics.
Seminars - Power Point presentations of the students on selected topics. On-line tests on selected topics.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

For a successful finishing of the subject, student has to:
- be present in seminars,
- have presentations of selected topics from applied ecology,
- pass the tests
- written exam and
- hand over his presentations.
