History of Building Trades

FAST-AG29Acad. year: 2013/2014

Implementation of development building trades from oldest time to end 19.century, clarifying conventional building processes with accent on the historic skilled handwork into detail.
Knowledges are using one the one hand in area restoration of monuments, one the one hand for understanding contemporary technologies and possibility solution of design details from point of view architectural and building construction.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage the goal of the subject, i.e. extended knowledge acquired in subject Building construction, where is supplement to understanding of historic context and building trades.

Prerequisites

Subject uses knowledge acquisition in subjectes Building construction and History of architecture and it is preparation for follow subjects Detail in architecture.

Co-requisites

Basically it is an independent discipline with its own content.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. In this case it deals with lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Oral examination on the basis of information gained at lectures and in recommended sources.

Course curriculum

1. Short development of buildi¨ng trades and their positio from
antiquity to close 19.century.
2. Stonework - development method preparation of stone, masonry
pillars, vaults.
3. Stonework - shields, oriels, balconyies and development trade
rendenring.
4. Stonework - stone facing, cornises, adjustments of details windows
and doors.
5. Bricklaying - development of trade, brickwork, walling bedding and
jointing, vaults, cornises, stairs.
6. Bricklaying - modify external and inside of surface, brick
pavings, plasters, stuke, patent stone.
7. Carpentry - development of trade, curb and timber frameworks,
historic roof trusses.
8. Carpentry - walls, ceilings, roofings.
9. Carpentry - development of trade of doors and gates.
10.Joinery - windows, sho-windows.
11.Tinsmith´s workshop and roofer´s workshop - development of trades
roofings, racewazs by channels and aris gutters.
12.Smithery - debelopment of trade connections, windows, daylights,
chimneys, rails, grates.
13.Excursion.
