Technology of Constructions

FAST-AW51Acad. year: 2013/2014

Technology of constructions is dealing with research, development, modelling and realisation of production processes in civil engineering. The objective is an optimum and economic manner of the execution of building structures, buildings and their complexes.
The course covers introduction into the branch of the technology of constructions, division of construction processes, their technology, spatial and time structure and optimisation of their course. In addition the students are acquainted with preparation and realisation phase of the investment process, from the letter of intent up to the passing over of a completed building into operation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

In this course the students will acquire the elementary knowledge about the methods and procedures in the construction preparation and execution. They will get familiar with the terms used in construction technology planning, they will understand the sequence and continuity of the tasks necessary in the pre-production and production construction stages. They will get to know the complex investment process from the point of view of the individual building participants and they will get to know the reasons and possibilities of the process modeling. They will know how to define and describe the partial technological stages of the construction, they will know the importance of the quality aspect and safety matters in the construction.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of planning and designing of construction of civil engineering and utility services.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. This course is divided into lectures and seminars.
In the seminars the students will be given individual assignments and they will work on their projects. The outcomes will be checked by controlled and individual consultations with the teacher. The seminars will include two field trips on constructions, which are nearly finished.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Lecture attendance is recommended. Seminars attendance is obligatory and checked, because of the topics extension the teacher can excuse only one legitimate absence. All the submitted parts of the seminary work with a uniform layout will be put into a folder of an A4 format, the details studies will be drawn in hand.

Aims

Acquiring of knowledge of selected construction processes, of requirements for their readiness before execution, balance of sources, principles of technology procedures of individual construction processes, their sequence and links, requirements for their quality, safety and environmental protection in the course their realisation.
Basic information on requirements for the construction preparation and realisation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.

Recommended optional programme components

Students can also choose from the wide range of seminars and lectures by professional constructors, field trips to production and construction sites and other events organized for students by the institute. Not obligatory.
