Water Supply

FAST-BP03Acad. year: 2013/2014

Water intake, basic technological processes of water treatment, water disinfections, balance declaration of water consumption, calculation of water demand, conceptual design of water supply systems, pressure zones, reservoirs and pumping stations, design and assessment of water distribution network, pipe materials, fittings and armatures, design and maintenance documentation, organisation and structure of this sector in Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Ability to understand the technological processes for drinking water treatment, to relaise the basic calculations of water demand and consumpiton, the proposal of individual elements of water treatment plants and other elements of water supply systems. The eligibility to design the profiles, pipe material, pipe fittings and valves of water mains. The capability to work with the water supply project documentation.

Hydraulics, Engineering networks, Chemistry and technological processes in water treatment

Co-requisites

Technologies used in waste water treatement.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Presentation of the recommended computational procedures, photos and video sequences of real objects of public water supply, samples of real project documentation of service connection, longitudinal profiles and fittings schema.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Mandatory participation in seminars at the seminars (only allowed two excused absence) submitting examples of exercises deadlines. Written and oral examination.

1. Guidelines for drinking-water quality. Water intake. Primary pre-treatment.
2. Water treatment – introduction. Coagulating. Homogenizing equipment. Flocculation tanks.
3. Sedimentation and clarification.
4. Filtration.
5. Oxidation and other water treatment theory.
6. Water disinfection. Handling and storing chemicals. Sludge management of water-treatment plants.
7. Water demand and water consumption.
8. Conceptual design of water supply systems, pressure zones.
9. Water supply pumping stations.
10. Water tanks
11. Water distribution network, design and hydraulic analysis.
12. Tube materials, fittings and armatures.
13. Design documentation of water supply systems.

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.
