Laboratory Classes in Photographic Processes

Laboratory classes focused on work with photographic camera, taking pictures on b&w negative and reversal films, colour negative and reversal films, digital photography and image processing, scanning of pictures, printing, print characteristics control. ICC profiles. The objective evaluation of materials and images is emphasized.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students will obtain practical knowledge of photographic materials processing and their objective evaluation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Laboratory exercise - 3 teaching hours per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

1) Photographic camera and shooting black&white negative film; 2) Influence of developing time on sensitometric properties of b&w film; 4) The effect of developer composition on sensitometric properties of b&w film; 5) Printing BW negative; 6) Resolving Power Test; 7) Printing BW Negative onto a Multigrade Enlarging Paper; 10) Toning Photographic Images; 11) BW Reversal Process; 12) Colour Negative Film and Processing; 13) Colour Negative Printing; 14) Colour Reversal Film and Processing; 16) Determining Sensitometric Characteristics of a Digital Camera; 17) Taking Pictures with Digital Camera Using the White Balance Feature; 18) Scanning BW images; 19) Scanning Color Transparencies Using ICC Profile; 20) Printing of Monochromatic Images Using Halftone Screening; 21) Color Composite Reproduction by Inkjet Printing – Subjective and Objective Quality Assessment; 22) Color Printing Using ICC Profile.

Aims

The aim of the Laboratory classes in photographic processes is to provide them practical training of photographic processes and quality control in these technologies.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance and activity at the laboratory classes are required. One absence can be compensated by the elaboration of substitute tasks.
