FP-VPCAcad. year: 2013/2014

Block diagram of a typical personal computer, main board structure, power supply. CPU as a basic executive unit - how it processes a program, how it communicates with an environment. Types and parameters of CPUs used in PCs. Internal memory subsystem, multi-level model of the memory subsystem. System bus, widespread types of system buses, parameters. Display subsystem of the PC, processing, storage and output of a text or graphical information, used technologies (CRT, LCD, …), basic parameters. External memory subsystem - hard- and floppy-disc, CD-ROM, other mass storage devices. Basic parameters, manner of operation, integration to the system. Input of a text and graphical information - keyboard, mouse, other input devices. Scanners, OCR technology. Peripheral devices attachment - serial and parallel interface, USB. Basic principles and technologies of printers and plotters. Computer networks.
