Learning outcomes of the course unit

Development of all language skills, consolidation and deepening of knowledge of grammatical structures, and increase in vocabulary with special emphasis on language needed at work.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of English at CEF B1 level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Exercises promote the practical mastery of the subject presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

1. Students have to pass a credit test from the taught topics. Maximum number of points for the test is 40, minimum 20.
2. The exam consists of two parts - writing and listening. Students may achieve 30 points for each part maximum. Final assessment reflects also the points achieved in the tests. Maximum number of points is 100.

2) Levels of formality. Discussing suggestions on the phone.
3) Past tenses and Present Perfect Simple. Technical text.
4) Job and motivation vocabulary. Sentence stress, emphasis. Communication at work.
5) Revision. Articles, Present Simple and Continuous.
6) Verbs of communication. Technical text.
7) Cohesion, linking. Turn-giving and turn-taking.
8) Future. Predictions. Technical text.
9) Auxiliaries. Word stress.
10) Offering, accepting and declining.
11) Revision. Narrative tenses.
12) Idioms. Being concise. Chairing a meeting. Technical text.
13) Credit test.

The aim of the course is to deepen the practical language skills that are essential for everyday communication and communicate more technical nature in the field of Management and IT. Preparing for the Practical English 2nd

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.
Teaching takes place during 13 weeks in the form of language exercises. Attendance at seminars is compulsory by 75%. Any absence must be properly excused. If the absence exceeds 75%, it must be replaced.
