Leadership of Diverse Teams

This course provides to students knowledge and skills in personnel managemet focusing on leadership diversity teams.
Completion of this course develops knowledge and skills in the following areas: leadership, human resources, management teams, social diversity, diversity measurements, methods and techniques of leadership and diversity management, intercultural management, gender management, diversity management, work-life balance.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course is focused on the basic theoretical knowledge usable in practice in leadership diversity teams. The course also provides space for personal experience and managerial skills through work on case studies and analysis of examples of good practice.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

For successful completion of the course student must fullfil the following requirements:
1. The attendance at lectures and seminars in the desired range.
2. The individual preparation for lectures and seminars in the desired range.
3. The effective cooperation at lectures and seminars.

There are two conditions for successful completion of the course:
1) The oral presentation
2) Written essay

Course curriculum

1. Introduction to the course. Background and concept of the course, the basic issues and their implications, basic overview of the study of literature and recommendations, requirements for the successful completion of the course, an overview of the basic terminology.
2. Leadership and management of diversity teams in a global environment. Theory of Economic Development R. Florida.
3. Social diversity in organizations. Definition of terminology, diversity at the individual level, the group level diversity, diversity at the organizational level. Measuring diversity. Diversity management.
4. Intercultural management and gender management. Intersectionality. Specifics of foreigners working in a foreign country, expatriates, braindrain, braingain, gender quotas, equal opportunities.
5. Age management. Terminology, theoretical approaches, research in the area of age management myths about older workers, multigenerational teams, perspectives age management.
6. The reconciliation of work and private life. Part-time jobs, corporate kindergarten, flexible working hours, work from home, shared-time jobs, win-win strategy. Examples of good practice.

The workout will be analyzed and evaluated case studies and examples of good practice on the topic:
1. Leadership and management of diversity teams in global environment
2. Social deversity in organizations
3. Intercultural management
4. Gender management
5. Age management
6. The reconciliation of work and private life.

Aims

The course aim is to obtain the overview of personnel management of diversity teams in companies and organizations in a global perspective. The emphasis is placed on basic concepts, theoretical concepts, research approaches, but also on the area of application of knowledge in practice personnel managers. The course presents examples of good practice.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance at lectures is recommended and controlled, the attendance at seminars is compulsory and controlled.
