Economy of Environment

The course deals with environmental economics and environmental policy. Students are introduced to the theory of environmental policy, as well as get acquainted with the legislative requirements of environmental protection across the enterprise. Based on the knowledge and skills students should understand the practical aspects of mutual respect environmental economics.

Based on the knowledge and skills students should be able to apply and solve within the specified project selected environmental areas in the company.

Students are expected to have general economic knowledge.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Knowledge is verified by a written test. The written test consists of six questions from theoretical and practical elements defined by lectures in the field of environmental economics enterprise. The student can obtain max. 70 points. Restake the test is possible just one in the credit week. Skills of the student are tested on the basis of the team project on a given topic, the student gets 30 points.

Enterprise and the environment. Ecological aspects of business strategy. The basic components of the environment and their problems
Sustainable Development. Indicators.
Instruments of environmental policy and their impact on business activity. Direct instruments.
Indirect instruments. Prices, fees and taxes. Fines. Credit policy. Grants. Indirect instruments. Damages. Tradable emission permits. Environmental insurance. Marking systems environmentally friendly products.
Duties of the businessman to protect the environment in general.
Duties of the businessman in water management.
Duties of the businessman in air pollution.
Duties of the businessman in waste management.
Duties of the businessman to conservation.

Duties of the businessman in soil conservation and forest.
Duties of the businessman in the management of chemicals and chemical products.
Voluntary approaches to environmental protection and opportunities for entrepreneurs.

The solution of practical examples - the company and the environment.

Aims

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic theoretical knowledge of the problems of environmental economics and environmental policy in connection with the company's duty to protect the environment.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

During the semester there is the development and the defense of the project team. In the case of excused absence from seminars, teacher in justified cases can set a condition alternative task.
