The course is intended to teach English as the second foreign language at general level. It is focused on practical, everyday communication for the international workplace.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace and grammar as needed for everyday communication.

Prerequisites

Course is a follow-up to the course “English for Beginners II” and requires previous knowledge of the following:
Grammar: To be, have, have got. Present Simple. There is, there are. Adverbs of frequency. Some, any. Prepositions. Past Simple. Regular and irregular verbs.
Vocabulary: Getting to know people. Numbers. Telephoning. Lifestyles. Job. Time expressions. Travel and holiday. Instructions.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course it taught by means of language lessons focused on practicing language skills and developing vocabulary. It includes also individual work of students in the elearning environment.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars actively and worked out all assigned tasks for self-study. Students have to pass a credit test reaching 60% points as minimum. The credit test has one regular term and two resits.

3. U5 Offers and requests. Eating and drinking.
4. U6 Global comparisons. Comparative and superlative adjectives.
5. U6 Telling the time, dates. Welcoming a visitor.
6. U7 Life in the fast lane. Present continuous. Work.
7. U7 Making and changing arrangements.
8. U8 Future world language? Future: will. Expressing probability.
9. U8 Communication. Writing emails and faxes.
10.Revision, credit test

Aims

The aim of the course is to equip students with knowledge and skills that are necessary for real-life tasks, such as eating and drinking in a restaurant, telling the time, writing e-mails, making and changing arrangements etc., that arise in a wide range of occupations.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is systematically checked by the teacher. Absence may be in justified cases compensated for by the agreement with the teacher.
