Learning outcomes of the course unit

The theoretical knowledges of town planning mechanism and tendences.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of urban planning and the city development.

Co-requisites

Student in his own proposal addresses the construction or territory, deepen their knowledge of theoretical categories, get an overview of trends, directions and works of contemporary architecture, become acquainted with the technical principles of design of buildings. All in the context of the history and development of the field and visual presentation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on teachers requests. The teaching process consists of students seminary work focused on contemporary city (city district)development problem.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Final exam is related with practical work topic.

Urbanism and urban planning, terms and relations.
Urban planning instruments in Czech republic.
Contemporary city, its functional, transport and space organisation.
Actual problems and phenomenons (brownfields, suburbanisation, urban sprawl, shrinking cities)
Urbanisation and its phases, principles and relations.
Brownfields - features and examples
Sustainable cities development.
Brno - development.

Aims

The aim of the subject's study is to gain the theoretical and methodical knowledge needed for urban development planning.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Continuously consultated seminary work focused on regulation plan of the area according the students choice.

Recommended optional programme components

The course is recommended for both lectures of visiting teachers, practicing architects, both tied workshops on the subject.
