The course is oriented to knowledge on biological databases, their structures and possibilities of their use. It studies information technology methods for analysis of sequences from biological databases including DNA and also study of genomics and proteomics.

Practical knowledge of methods of acquiring information from biological databases and methods of analysis of sequences form biological databases based on information technology tools.

Course curriculum

Biological databases. Analysis on the level of nucleotides. Analysis on the level of proteins. Comparison of pairs in sequences. The use of MATLAB and Perl for analysis of biological data.

Syllabus

Biological databases: databases of sequences, database mapping, data mining from biological databases, genomic databases. Analysis of nucleotides: prediktivní metody v a. DNA sekvencí, prediktivní metody v a. RNA sekvencí, sekvenční polymorfismus. Analýza na úrovni proteinů: prediktivní metody v a. proteinových sekvencí, predikce struktury proteinů. Metody: porovnávání párů v sekvencích metodou BLAST a FASTA, vytváření a analýza násobných zarovnání sekvencí, metody sestavení zarovnání a jejich zakončení, fylogenetická analýza, výpočetní přístup ke komparativní genomice, proteomika a identifikace proteinů, exprese genů v DNA mikročipech. Využití jazyka MATLAB a Perl pro analýzy biologických dat.
