Techniques of Decreasing Industrial Harmful Substances

The course familiarises students with techniques of decreasing industrial harmful substances. It deals with the analysis of causes and consequences of the pollutant production connected with the production technologies and operation of handling equipments, building machines and machines for building materials production. Also discussed is the creation of ecological qualitative parameters of structure and building materials, handling and building machines, evaluation of dustiness, noise, vibrations, waste heat and ionized radiation sources. The course focuses also on measuring and separation techniques, as well as on constructional possibilities of dust and chemical harmful substances hazards decreasing at the technologies designing.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Understanding of selected physical and chemical principles of decreasing industrial harmful substances, principles of separators, filters, closed technological processes.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of the course is conditional on the knowledge of technical mechanics, physics, higher mathematics, machine parts and their mechanisms, physics of materials and principles of electrical engineering.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The graded course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the exercises and worked out the given tasks. The mark reflects student’s knowledge and skills, and his/her abilities to apply them. It has a written and an oral part.

Aims

The objective is for students to have an overview of physical, chemical and design principles of reducing industrial pollution.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at exercises is obligatory and checked by the teacher. Absence may be in justified cases compensated for by the agreement with the course supervisor.

3.-4.week: Principle of explosiveness, flammability and spontaneous combustions measuring.
5.-6.week: Principle of oxidizing ability.
7.-8.week: Principle of reducing toxicity, measuring.
9.-10.week: Appreciation of causticity infectivity.
11.-12.week: Principals of radioactivity measuring.
13.week: Resolution and appreciation of building and demolition wastes.
