Diagnostics of Motor Vehicles

FSI-QDV-KAcad. year: 2011/2012

The course of Diagnostics of Motor Vehicles is devised to acquaint students with theoretical fundamentals, existing current opportunities, and implementation of methods and means used for motor vehicles technical condition identification. The course highlights mathematical theory of diagnostic procedures and models, diagnostics recognition options, selected physical methods used in diagnostics process implementation and practical technical diagnostics application within motor vehicles and their main assembly groups (combustion engine, gear system, and chassis).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit award terms:
Knowledge of theoretical fundamentals of studied problems and practical implementation in lab practice. Application of the acquired knowledge to designated particular problems of vehicles technical diagnostics. A student has to elaborate a paper on the assigned topic without serious drawbacks.
Examination:
The knowledge of physical fundamentals of studied problems, methods of solution and its application to practical issues of utilising diagnostics processes at motor vehicles is tested.
The final evaluation includes:
1. Lab practice work.
2. Written paper on an assigned topic.
3. A test.
4. Oral part of the examination.

Aims

The objective of this course is to make students acquainted with up-to-date possibilities of detecting actual technical conditions of vehicles through non-disassembly and non-destructive methods. The course assignment is to provide students with theoretical fundamentals as well as with basic practical information on utilised methods and applied selected means for motor vehicles diagnostics.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance in seminars is obligatory, checked by a teacher. The way compensation of an absence is solved individually with the subject guarantor.
