Lighting technology

This course introduces into the wide field of lighting technology and acquaints students with the most important aspects of this field. Students will learn the basic quantities and their relationships, properties of vision, which is in lighting technology primary aim pursued. Other topics include anatomy of the eye and visual functions, discomfort glare and its evaluation, limit states of vision, the colour theory, importance of light spectrum and spectral assessment of the light. From the perspective of electrical engineering is particularly important the part of electric light sources, where the students are familiarized with virtually all of today's lighting source technologies with an emphasis on the perspective ones, such as LEDs.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic set of knowledge about physical properties of light, principles of light generation, basics of vision, knowledge from colorimetry and spectroradiometry, discomfort glare evaluation, overview about electrical light sources, principles of light generation and properties of all today used lighting sources. Earned knowledge is important for each lighting engineer.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the Bachelor's degree level is requested. Optimal is graduation from course Energy Use.

Aims

Aim of the course is to introduce students with basic theory of light, including needed photometry theory, basic information about light measurement and evaluation principles, types and properties of electrical light sources.
