Metallic Materials

Understanding and orientation in basic applications of the most important common physical, chemical and physically metalurgical principles and technologies of metallic materials. Application of newly designad materials. Internal structure of metals and alloys. Phase transformations. Methods of evaluation of metallic materials. Mechanical properties. Iron and its alloys. Non ferrous metals and alloys.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Extent of the subject is sufficiant for learning of the basic knowledge only giving students essential understanding and orientation in metallic materials problematics. It helps to rationalize solutions of technical problems. Lectures follows up indirectly the subject "Structure and properties of inorganic materials I" where topics of metallic materials were omitted completely or were discussed marginally only.

Aims

Understanding of fundamentals of crystalline structure of metalls, mechanisms of phase transformation and corrosion, review of common construction materials and their testing

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students of combined (distant) form of study are obliged to contact the garant within first week of semester. Then the individual plan of app. 3-4 consultation (following the self-study of proper literature) will be established.
