Biopolymers

Structure and importance of biopolymers. Interrelationship among the structure of water clusters, hydration and biopolymers conformation. Biomaterials. Transport of biopolymers trough the compartments of human body and biocompatibility. Applications of biopolymers in medicine, pharmacy and industry.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students will get the fundamental knowledge on the physico-chemical properties of selected biopolymers, and their modification aimed to improve these properties. The attention will be also paid to the elucidation of the role of hydration water on their conformation and specific function.

Prerequisites

Knowledge from selected chapters of Organic chemistry, Biochemistry and Physical chemistry.
