AudioPractice - Winter

Practical skills in sound editing related to the knowledge of music software, using the various types of microphones, setting the recording signal level, setting up the monitoring, primary audio recording, added tracks, editing, post-production and the basic rules of mastering. Practical exercise, excursions to other studia.

Attendance at or credit from the Acoustics and Sound subject, basic IT skills, musical feeling, elementary knowledge of music software.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit is awarded for the completion of an assigned task from the area of sound recording and sound editing.

Course curriculum

1. General character and different use of Cubase and Ableton SW.
2. Various types of recording technologies, their use, history, advantages and disadvantages.
3. Various types of microphones and their practical usage, types of connections
4. Multitracking and reception in the directing room and/or in the recording room
5. Mixing the recorded material, editing
6. Plug-ins, effects, dynamic alterations
7. Final mix, export, back-up
8. Mastering, mastering matrix, industry standards
9. Excursion (for instance of the Disc post-production studio at Barrandov).

Students will learn the principles of working in sound studio, sound directing, and psychology of recording.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is mandatory.
