Original Abstract

The revision of protective zones of groundwater resources based on the amendment of selection sign 19 of the Water Law (14/98), the notice of Ministry of Environment No. 137/99 and the new Water Law No. 254/2001 is intended for the complex and diversified groundwater resources protection according to the character of water source, natural conditions and the degree of an exposure of the water source. The documentation submitted at the process of groundwater protection zone revision consists of hydrogeological survey and basic data identification, numerical model of the groundwater flow, final completion and the design of the protection zone boundary location with respect to the land-owner property rights, restriction of activities within the protective zone, etc. Recently, the mathematical modelling is essential part of hydrogeological studies dealing with the groundwater resources protective zones revision and proclamation. The two-dimensional model of groundwater flow presented in the paper was derived with respect to the groundwater flow at Quaternary geological formations. In this model, small gradient of water table (piezometric head respectively) is assumed. The method proposed was applied at the revision of fourteen groundwater resources revised during the last two years.
