Original Abstract

The paper discusses design and application of an optical receiver that can detect a single photon using avalanche photodiode. The main emphasis is put on a passive quenching circuit that makes the single-photon regime of avalanche photodiode possible. The optical receiver serves for single photon optical wireless link using a new method -quantum key distribution. The method, known as quantum cryptography, is suitable for transmission of short encrypted messages.
