Original Abstract

This work brings our experimental results regarding toluene and hexane destruction in gliding arc plasma. These two compounds were used as the commonly used examples of volatile organic compounds, the first one as an example of cyclic compounds, the other as a compound with a linear chain. Our study brings the experimental results obtained in nitrogen and nitrogen-argon gas mixtures. The destruction processes were observed by optical emission spectroscopy, only. The significant increase of the VOC destruction was observed through the increase of the CN violet band intensities when argon was added into pure nitrogen. A simple kinetic model is presented to explain the experimental observations.
