Original Abstract

This paper presents results of plasma sterilization using DBD operating at atmospheric pressure. The effect of DBD on various types of microorganisms was studied. Fungi Aspergillus niger, gram- bacterium E. coli and gram+ bacterium Bacillus subtilis were used as bioindicators. Furthermore the contribution of each single mechanism (UV radiation, temperature and reactive species) to the sterilization effect of plasma was evaluated. In order to verify the role of etching during plasma sterilization, the samples were studied by ESEM. The DBD was analysed by means of OES. Thermocouple type K was used for the temperature measurements during the sterilization process.
