Original Abstract

Humic acids, as one of the most reactive part of soil, were modified by esterification of their carboxylic functional groups. Obtained methylated humic acids were mixed with non-modified humic acids in different ratios. These mixtures were used for the study of reactivity of humic acids in simple diffusion experiments. Copper (II) ions were used as diffusing reactive compound. Results indicate decrease in sorption ability of humic acids with increasing amount of modified humic acids in mixtures. This is associated with decreasing amount of free carboxylic functional groups, which are responsible for creating of the interactions with metals.
