Original Abstract

This work sums up the results of ecotoxicity tests, which have been conducted on seventeen selected polyurethane foams modified by addition of biodegradable compounds. Foams whose toxicity was tested were modified by sodium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose, acetylated starch, cellulose acetate, 2- hydroxyethylcellulose and wheat protein-gluten as the bio-polyols. For the evaluation of ecotoxicity two alternative toxicity tests, Thamnotoxkit F on sense organisms Thamnocephalus platyurus and Daphnotoxkit F magna on sense organisms Daphnia magna were used. The ecotoxicity was evaluated also by two phytotests: Sinapis alba root growth inhibition toxicity test and Allium cepa L root growth inhibition toxicity test. The recommendation of the most suitable phytotoxicity test and altenative toxicity test for the evaluation of the polyurethane foam degradation products ecotoxicity was pointed out.
