Original Abstract

Cylindrical specimens of cast polycrystalline Inconel 738LC were cyclically strained under total strain control at room temperature. Surface relief was studied in individual grains using confocal laser scanning microscope. Cyclic strain is localized in persistent slip bands resulting in persistent slip markings (PSMs) on the surface. The density of PSMs increases with increasing number of elapsed cycles. The height of extrusions within PSMs was studied quantitatively.

Keywords

Inconel 738LC, low cycle fatigue, confocal laser scaning microscopy, surface relief.
