Original Abstract

The electron beam-welding machine in ISI Brno is intended for joining components and materials used in electron optical instrumentation. As an electron gun a thermionic cathode with tungsten hairpin filament is used. The optical part consists of centering coils, a magnetic lens and a deflection system [1]. Typically, the beam energy is 50 keV, maximum power is about 1 kW. For a narrow weld we need a very bright electron source.
