Original Abstract

When calculating the load-carrying capacity of steel frames according to the standard Eurocode 3, the influence of imperfections on load-carrying capacity of a steel structure is included only in a very simplified way. The load-carrying capacity can be determined both geometrically, by the non-linear solution with equivalent initial imperfection, and by the stability solution with buckling length. Both solutions mentioned include certain simplifications in themselves. When determining the load-carrying capacity, the geometrically non-linear solution using simulation methods (for example Latin Hypercube Sampling) should be generally applied and random effect of input quantities on load capacity, taken into account. In particular, the influence of mutual correlation of input quantities on load-carrying capacity will be studied.
