Original Abstract

The paper presents the results of permittivity and conductivity measurement on hyaluronic acid and its sodium salt. The conductivity of the sample is rather large (~1E-8 S/m) so that it masks any relaxation peaks. The conductivity is modelled as a sum of a dc component and one or more power-law ac components. The activation energy of the dc component is about 5.4 MJ/kmol. Conductivity of the sample does not depend on the type of the cation in the molecule of the hyaluronic acid; hence the conductivity is associated rather with electrons. The validity of the power law with the exponent n ~ 1, which is a ubiquitous phenomenon in low-molecular-weight matter, has now also been proved for hyaluronic acid - a very high-molecular-weight material.
