Original Abstract

Quasibrittle materials like concrete and mortar when subjected to high temperatures disintegrate (gradually or explosively) due to physical and chemical changes. The goal of this paper is evaluation of the combined effect of transport properties and resistance against crack growth on the explosive spalling occurrence. The proportions of these two features are dominant for explosive spalling occurrence apart from structure dimensions, heating rate and water content.
