Original Abstract

The purpose of our research is to investigate dielectric relaxation spectra of hyaluronic acid (HYA). The objective of the research was to determine the origin of the relaxation, mainly the frequency and temperature behavior of HYA, as well as the conductivity. HYA is a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide composed of alternating molecules of N-acetyl glucosamine and D-glucuronic acid. It is a member of the glycosaminoglycan family that is found within collagen throughout the body. As the most important space filling substance in the human body HYA holds more water than any other molecule in the body and is necessary to keep collagen hydrated and youthful. HYA is only seldom available in the pure form, and therefore our attention was paid to the properties of its sodium salt, i.e. sodium hyaluronate (HYNa).
