Original Abstract

R-curve approach is not a universal crack model for quasi-brittle fracture because of lack of geometry independency. Two parameter fracture mechanics captures the constraint effect of geometry on the fracture behaviour by means of the second member of Williams' series, which approximates the field of stress near the crack tip. This paper offers synthesis of these two concepts and proposes so-called resistance surfaces as a material fracture parameter.
