The basics of the wavelet transform and its application in image and video compression are discussed. Wavelets in the spatial and temporal domain are presented in interactive web based Java applets such as image based pyramidal decomposition, block-based motion estimation, and compensation and the influence on wavelet-based video compression and wavelet-based temporal filtering.
