Original Abstract

An original 3D numerical model of the temperature field of a system, comprising a plate casting, the mold and the surroudings, had been assembled and used to optimize the production technology of a verticaly cast steel plate. It is possible to calculate the optimum thickness of insulation for ensuring the quality of the casting.
