Original Abstract

In some cases, it is not possible to diagnose wood quality using destructive methods. This requires the use of non-destructive and semi-destructive methods which do only slight damage to the structure of the wood. Kučera’s drilling machine, which is commonly used to diagnose masonry constructions, may be a gentler method. This drilling machine for masonry construction has been tested on wooden constructions with different moisture levels. Moisture itself plays an important role in wood as it influences the physical and mechanical properties of the material. The way the wood structure is saturated may also be an important factor. This paper gives an overview of the properties of wood at a various levels of saturation achieved using a climatic chamber. This method should ensure higher-quality wood saturation and therefore lower deviations in measured values.
