Original Abstract

The study of oxohydroxoaluminium cations was focused on the existence of so-called Keggin ion in solution, in the precipitated sulphate salts and in the interlayer of intercalated montmorillonite. The intercalation of the oxohydroxoaluminium cations into interlayer of montmorillonite suppose that guest cation is Keggin ion, in spite of the existence of this cation in aqueous solution is quite problematic. The study of the oxohydroxoaluminium cations adsorption on the montmorillonite confirmed very strong influence of pH (i.e. OH/Al) on adsorption process. The intercalated oxohydroxoaluminium forms are changed in dependence on the pH conditions of aqueous solution. While at pH 1.68 the presence of simple hydrated Al3+ ion can be expected, in pH 4.00 probably it may be Keggin ion and at higher pH even higher oxohydroxoaluminium polymers.
