Original Abstract

The contribution presents simulations of concrete specimens loaded under various displacement rates. The meso-level discrete particle model is used within this contribution. In this model, the material is represented by a system of interconnected discrete particles of polyhedral shape that are assumed to be ideally rigid. The model is applied to simulations of compact tension specimens. The simulations predict higher loading capacity and crack branching for specimens loaded under higher displacement rates. No strain rate dependence of material properties is used within this contribution.
