Original Abstract

The study is focused on preparation and characterization of unidirectional long fiber biocomposites. They are based on flax fiber reinforcement and polyester or vinylester resins. For the preparation of the samples, laboratory pultrusion device was developed especially for this study. This device can make a uniform samples at similar conditions to the industrial production. Fiber/matrix inerphase was controlled by fiber treatment via a wet-procedure of surface modification of raw flax fibers. Coupling agents like sodium hydroxide, anhydrides or agents based on silane were used. The influence of fiber treatment and fiber volume fraction on the mechanical properties was tested by short beam shear, flexural and tensile test. The obtain results of mechanical properties were compared to composites without fiber treatment and with theoretical values calculated from real fiber and matrix properties.
