V průběhu katastrofické povodně v srpnu 2002, která postihla jak západní část České republiky, tak část území Německa a Rakouska, došlo na našem území k protržení desítek hrází malých vodních nádrží rybničního typu. V tomto příspěvku jsou uvedeny závěry naší analýzy protržení rybníků Melín a Metelský na Blatensku v Jižních Čechách. Důsledkem protržení byla přívalová povodňová vlna s kulminačním průtokem přesahujícím 550 m3/s, která smetla velkou část níže položené obce Metly a Předmíř, způsobila protržení dalších čtyř po toku situovaných rybníků a byla příčinou značných škod v městě Blatná.

During the catastrophic flood in August 2002, which affected the middle and Western Europe, about 70 breached small dams were identified at the Czech Republic area. The paper deals with more detailed analysis of the small dam failures at the Blatna region in the south of Bohemia (see Figure 1). At the area of interest 10 small earth dams breached due to overtopping. We focused on the reasons of failures of two of them - dams of pond Metelesky and Melin - which caused disastrous consequences at the villages Metly and Predmir located downstream of the ponds. The breach outflow caused overtopping and failure of five small earth dams in the valley downstream of the Metelsky pond and finally flooding of the town of Blatna . In the analysis, the hydrological conditions were assessed in context with bottom outlets and spillway capacity. At the same way the breaching mechanism was reproduced and the peak flood discharge was estimated.
