Original Abstract

The paper deals with the use of stream water quality models in connection with geographical information system (GIS) for the purpose of long-term water quality management. Lots of data are required for the modelling of water quality in surface water. The data comprise river network topology, hydrological data, socio-economic data, pollution sources and data for calibration and verification. All the data can be easily handled by a hydro-information system. The subject of the study was to set up a hydro-information system for the river network of the Svratka river catchment of approximately 1000 km2 surface area. Within the scope of the study database was assembled as a data source for the GIS (ArcView) as well as for the numerical models used. The outputs of numerical models were transferred to the database in order to display them in GIS. Easy data exchange between software applied was emphasised.
