Original Abstract

Formalin-inactivated cells of Bifidobacterium longum ssp. longum strains were cultivated with spleen cells from mice with intestinal inflammation induced by dextran sodium sulfate. Production of pro-inflamantory (IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha) and regulatory cytokine Il-10 were determined in cells supernatants by ELISA. Immunomodulatory properties of bifidobacteria were shown to be strain dependent.
